Comfort and Consolation
When grief is fresh, Scripture's direct word of comfort is what families most need. These readings give it. Psalm 23 walks the valley with the shepherd. John 14 promises a place prepared in the Father's house. First Thessalonians 4 reminds the bereaved that we "do not grieve like the rest, who have no hope." Matthew 11 invites the weary to come to Christ for rest. Choose from this list when you want the funeral's register to be tender rather than triumphant.
